Quick Takeaways
  • Brazil’s electrified vehicle market grew 92% year-on-year in February 2026.
  • BEVs and PHEVs together represented nearly 70% of electrified vehicle sales.

Brazil’s electrified vehicle market continued expanding rapidly at the start of 2026, according to ABVE. The ABVE Brazil electrified vehicle sales data released on March 7 showed that registrations of electrified light vehicles reached 24,885 units in February. This represented a strong 92% year-on-year increase and a 5% improvement compared with January. Electrified vehicles captured about 14% of the country’s total light-vehicle sales during the month, confirming the segment’s transition into a consistent double-digit share within the national automotive market.

Strong Growth Across Electrified Powertrain Segments

The market expansion was visible across multiple electrified powertrain categories. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 8,703 units sold, representing roughly 35% of total electrified light-vehicle sales. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) followed closely with 8,393 units, or about 34% of the total. BEV registrations alone increased 94% compared with February of the previous year, reflecting rising consumer acceptance of fully electric mobility solutions and growing availability of models in Brazil’s passenger car market.

Hybrid Vehicles and Regional Demand Trends

Hybrid vehicles also contributed significantly to the market expansion tracked by ABVE. Non-plug-in hybrids, including HEV and HEV Flex variants, reached 7,789 units and represented approximately 31% of electrified vehicle sales. HEV Flex models alone achieved 3,960 units, increasing 170% year-on-year, while conventional hybrids recorded 3,829 units, up 234% from February 2025. Regionally, Brazil’s Southeast accounted for 45.4% of electrified sales, followed by the South with 18.1% and the Northeast with 17.2%, while São Paulo remained the largest state market with 7,690 units sold.
