Quick Takeaways
  • Top Material cathode material expansion marks a strategic entry into the U.S. battery manufacturing ecosystem.
  • The move strengthens local supply chain ties while advancing LFP cathode mass production readiness.
Several South Korean media sources reported that South Korea’s Top Material Co., Ltd. has established a new fully owned subsidiary in Silicon Valley, the United States, as part of its broader Top Material cathode material expansion strategy aimed at strengthening its presence in the North American battery market. The move reflects growing momentum around localized battery material production and technology development.

US Market Entry and Strategic Subsidiary Formation

The newly formed Silicon Valley subsidiary has been created to focus on developing the cathode material business in the United States, aligning with rising demand for advanced battery materials across electric mobility and energy storage sectors. Immediately after its establishment, the subsidiary demonstrated early traction by securing a major project order.

USD 10 Million Turnkey Battery Project

The subsidiary secured a USD 10 million contract from Electrochemistry Foundry (ECF), a California government backed secondary battery center. Under this agreement, Top Material will deliver the entire secondary battery production line on a turnkey basis, covering design, installation, and commissioning, followed by operational responsibility for a two year period.

Technology Reputation and Supply Chain Expansion

The order was awarded based on the company’s strong reputation in the U.S. market for production line construction expertise, along with its established capabilities in battery materials and cell design. Through operating the ECF facility, the company aims to deepen collaboration with local partners and strengthen its integration into the U.S. battery supply chain.

LFP Cathode Production Progress in South Korea

Alongside its U.S. expansion, Top Material has completed construction of a lithium ferro phosphate cathode production line in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. Trial operations for mass production are currently underway, positioning the company to support growing global demand for LFP based battery solutions while complementing its overseas cathode material expansion plans.
