Aluminum EV Body Parts JV: Aisin, Toyota Tsusho, Minth Set Up Canada Manufacturing

On February 5, Aisin Corporation, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and Taiwan-based Minth Group Limited announced plans to establish ATM Automotive Parts Inc., a new joint venture focused on aluminum EV body parts production in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The venture is expected to be formally set up by the end of February, reinforcing regional manufacturing capabilities.
The joint venture will focus on producing aluminum body frame parts, including battery cases and rocker materials, commonly known as side sills. These components are designed for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles, addressing increasing demand for lightweight and durable structures across the North American EV market.

Strengthening North American EV Supply

The new facility is positioned to enhance the local supply structure for key EV components. By manufacturing aluminum EV body parts within North America, the partners aim to reduce supply chain complexity and improve responsiveness to automaker requirements in the region. Production timing has not yet been finalized, and details such as the venture’s capital investment and representative leadership remain undisclosed. Despite this, the initiative reflects a clear commitment to long-term regional manufacturing and localization strategies.

Ownership Structure and Operational Roles

Under the agreed structure, Aisin Corporation and Minth Group will each hold a 40% stake in the joint venture, while Toyota Tsusho will own the remaining 20%. This balance aligns manufacturing expertise with trading and operational support.

Leveraging Assets for Competitive Production

The joint venture plans to establish a competitive production system by leveraging Minth Group’s existing assets in Canada. Toyota Tsusho’s involvement in operations is expected to support efficient coordination and supply chain management, while Aisin contributes its automotive component manufacturing expertise. Through this collaboration, the partners aim to build a stable and scalable platform for aluminum EV body parts, supporting the ongoing transition toward electrification in the North American automotive industry without compromising on quality, cost efficiency, or supply reliability.
