Quick Takeaways
  • NTN Corporation global production restructuring focuses on cost efficiency and electrification readiness.
  • The move strengthens NTN’s long-term automotive manufacturing and brake system strategy.
NTN Corporation is accelerating a comprehensive reorganization of its global manufacturing footprint covering core automotive products such as bearings and constant velocity joints. The initiative is designed to lower production costs while preparing operations for the growing shift toward vehicle electrification.
As part of its three-year mid-term business plan ending in March 2027, the company has allocated approximately JPY 35 billion toward structural reform. These expenses are primarily aimed at correcting excessive production capacity and improving overall manufacturing efficiency across its global network.
NTN Corporation Global Production Restructuring Under Mid-Term Plan
The restructuring strategy focuses on reallocating production functions within Japan to create clearer roles for each plant. NTN plans to complete the transfer of a portion of ball bearing production from its Iwata Works to its Wakayama Works by January 2028, streamlining operations and reducing overlapping capacity.
Key objectives of the restructuring include:
  • Optimizing production capacity to match future demand
  • Reducing fixed manufacturing costs amid electrification trends
  • Strengthening competitiveness in core automotive components

Iwata Works Repositioned for Brake System Growth
Following the production transfer, the Iwata Works will be redefined as a dedicated base for ball screws used in brake systems. NTN has identified this product segment as a future growth area with strong relevance for next-generation vehicles and advanced braking technologies.
Through this plant reorganization, the company aims to elevate ball screws for brake systems to a core business line, alongside bearings and CVJs. The shift positions Iwata Works as a development and production hub supporting NTN’s long-term product diversification strategy.
By executing these structural reforms and clarifying the role of each manufacturing site, NTN Corporation seeks to build a more resilient production system. The global production restructuring is expected to enhance profitability while aligning the company’s automotive operations with evolving electrification and safety requirements.
