On October 30, Hyundai WIA Corporation announced a strategic expansion of its integrated thermal management system business, strengthening its position in next-generation vehicle thermal solutions. The move aligns with rising demand from electric, hybrid, and internal combustion engine platforms, particularly in purpose-built vehicles designed for commercial and mobility services.
Integrated Thermal Management System for EV Purpose-Built Vehicles
Hyundai WIA began mass production of its integrated thermal management system for electric vehicles in July 2025. The system is currently supplied to Kia Corporation for the Kia PV5 purpose-built vehicle, supporting efficient temperature control across batteries, power electronics, and cabin systems.
Looking ahead, Hyundai WIA plans to extend supply to the Kia PV7, a large-sized PBV, starting in 2027. This expansion reflects growing adoption of integrated thermal architectures in scalable EV platforms, where efficiency, packaging, and reliability directly influence vehicle range and operating costs.
Expansion into ICE and Hybrid Vehicle Thermal Systems
Beyond electric vehicles, Hyundai WIA is broadening its thermal portfolio to include air-conditioning systems for internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles. Deliveries of these systems to Hyundai Motor Company are scheduled to begin in 2027, enabling a unified thermal strategy across multiple propulsion technologies.
By supporting EV, ICE, and hybrid platforms, the integrated thermal management system approach allows optimized component integration, reduced system complexity, and improved energy efficiency across diverse vehicle lineups.
Manufacturing Capacity and Infrastructure Development
To support rising volumes, Hyundai WIA continues to invest in production infrastructure for thermal management systems. In the second half of 2025, the company established new manufacturing facilities at its first plant in Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do.
The expanded facilities include:
  • Heat exchangers and tube production lines
  • Cooling water module manufacturing
  • Refrigerant module assembly capacity

These additions enhance vertical integration and ensure stable supply for both domestic and future export programs.
Global Production Strategy for Thermal Management Systems
As demand for integrated thermal management systems accelerates worldwide, Hyundai WIA plans to establish overseas production bases. This global manufacturing strategy is intended to improve supply responsiveness, reduce logistics complexity, and support automakers expanding EV and PBV production across multiple regions.
