On January 20, Volkswagen Group released its Q4 2025 and full-year 2025 sales performance, reflecting mixed results across overall volumes and electrified vehicles. While total vehicle deliveries softened year-on-year, battery electric vehicles continued to gain traction across key global markets.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, Volkswagen Group delivered 2,379,800 vehicles worldwide, marking a 4.9% year-on-year decline compared to 2,502,300 units in Q4 2024. For the full year 2025, total sales reached 8,983,900 units, slightly lower than the 9,026,700 units recorded in 2024, representing a marginal drop of 0.5%.
Volkswagen Group Q4 2025 sales driven by BEV growth
Battery electric vehicle performance remained a key highlight within Volkswagen Group Q4 2025 sales. BEV deliveries in Q4 2025 rose 11.6% year-on-year to 265,600 units, up from 238,000 units in the same quarter last year. On a full-year basis, BEV sales climbed sharply by 32.0% to 983,100 units, compared to 744,600 units in 2024.
This sustained momentum lifted BEV market share to 11.2% in Q4 2025, up from 9.5% a year earlier, reflecting an increase of 1.6 percentage points. Across full-year 2025, BEVs accounted for 10.9% of total Volkswagen Group sales, compared to 8.2% in 2024, translating into a gain of 2.7 percentage points.
Regional performance strengthens electric vehicle strategy
Global BEV penetration improved from 8% to 11% year-on-year, supported by strong regional performance. Europe delivered standout growth of 66%, reinforcing its position as Volkswagen Group’s strongest BEV market with an approximate 27% share and five Group models ranked among the top ten electric vehicles.
In the United States, BEV sales expanded by 46%, while China recorded a planned decline of 44% ahead of upcoming locally developed electric models. New product launches played a central role in supporting demand, including models such as the Škoda Elroq, Audi A6 e-tron, and the new Volkswagen Transporter.
Order intake and PHEV demand continue to rise
European demand indicators remained positive, with BEV orders increasing by 21% to exceed 200,000 vehicles. These orders represented around 22% of the total order backlog, while overall vehicle orders across regions grew by approximately 13%.
In parallel, Volkswagen Group also observed rising interest in second-generation plug-in hybrid vehicles. Models offering electric-only ranges of up to 143 km gained particular traction in Europe, where PHEV sales increased by 72%, underlining continued consumer demand for flexible electrified powertrains alongside pure electric vehicles.
