Quick Takeaways
  • Great Wall Motor Brazil plant expansion signals long-term commitment to local manufacturing.
  • The planned Espírito Santo facility could strengthen supply to Brazil and wider South American markets.
On January 16, it was reported that Great Wall Motor is preparing to establish a second manufacturing facility in Brazil, reinforcing its long-term strategy in the South American automotive market.
The automaker signed a commitment agreement with the government of the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo, marking the first formal step toward the proposed Great Wall Motor Brazil plant. While construction cannot begin immediately, the agreement initiates the required technical, environmental, and institutional studies needed to advance the project.
Investment Scope and Timeline for the Great Wall Motor Brazil Plant
Initial projections indicate an investment of approximately BRL 340 million, with production potentially commencing in 2028. This new facility is designed to complement GWM’s existing Iracemápolis plant in São Paulo, strengthening the company’s domestic manufacturing footprint.
The initiative aligns with a broader investment roadmap under which total capital deployment in Brazil could reach BRL 10 billion by 2032. Once operational scale is achieved, the Great Wall Motor Brazil plant may also support vehicle supply to other South American markets.
Espírito Santo’s Strategic Role in GWM’s Brazil Expansion
Espírito Santo has already emerged as a strategic logistics hub for GWM, processing more than 45,000 imported vehicles through its ports in 2025. This established logistics capability, combined with available infrastructure, positioned the state as the leading candidate for the company’s next factory.
Based on ongoing evaluations, Aracruz has been identified as the primary potential location for the new facility, subject to the completion of detailed feasibility studies. The proposed Great Wall Motor Brazil plant would further integrate manufacturing and logistics operations, supporting efficient regional growth while deepening the company’s presence in Brazil’s evolving automotive landscape.
