China EV Battery Installations Show Strong December Performance
China EV battery installations reached 98.1 GWh in December, reflecting a 35.1% year-on-year increase and a 4.9% rise compared with November. The steady month-on-month growth highlights continued demand from electric vehicle manufacturers and stable capacity utilization across battery producers.
Lithium iron phosphate batteries accounted for 79.8 GWh of December installations, representing 81.3% of the total. This marked a 33.7% year-on-year increase and a 5.9% month-on-month gain, reinforcing LFP’s position as the preferred chemistry for mass-market electric vehicles.
Ternary lithium battery installations reached 18.2 GWh during the month, contributing 18.6% of total installations. This segment recorded a 40.5% year-on-year increase, while remaining broadly flat compared with November.
China EV Battery Installations Reach 769.7 GWh in 2025
For the full year 2025, China EV battery installations totaled 769.7 GWh, reflecting a 40.4% year-on-year increase. LFP batteries accounted for the majority of this volume, with total installations reaching 625.3 GWh. This represented 81.2% of overall installations and a significant 52.9% annual growth rate.
Ternary battery installations reached 144.1 GWh in 2025, accounting for 18.7% of the total. Growth in this segment remained modest, increasing 3.7% year-on-year, as manufacturers continued to prioritize cost efficiency and supply chain stability.
Battery Production and Exports Support Installation Growth
China’s combined production of power and energy storage batteries reached 201.7 GWh in December, rising 62.1% year-on-year and 14.4% from November. LFP battery production totaled 160.5 GWh, up 63.5% year-on-year and 14.9% month-on-month, while ternary battery production reached 40.6 GWh, increasing 56.4% year-on-year.
Power battery exports also expanded during 2025, reaching 189.7 GWh. Exports accounted for 62.2% of total shipments, reflecting a 41.9% year-on-year increase and highlighting China’s growing role in global electric vehicle battery supply chains.
