Quick Takeaways
  • India scooter sales 2025 crossed a historic milestone, reshaping the two-wheeler market landscape.
  • Honda, TVS and Suzuki collectively defined growth momentum as scooters outpaced motorcycles in volume contribution.
On January 15, 2026, India scooter sales 2025 were confirmed as a watershed moment for the two-wheeler industry. Annual scooter volumes surged to an all-time high of 75.2 lakh units, registering a 13 percent year-on-year increase and crossing the 70 lakh mark for the first time.
This surge proved decisive in lifting total two-wheeler sales beyond 2.05 crore units, a level not achieved in the past seven years. Without the strong scooter performance, the industry would have struggled to cross the two-crore threshold.
Key highlights from the year include:
  • Honda sold 28.8 lakh scooters in 2025, up 1 percent YoY
  • The sales gap between Honda and TVS narrowed sharply
  • Suzuki Access remained the brand’s highest-selling model

Scooters Gain Share in the Two-Wheeler Market
Scooters strengthened their role within India’s two-wheeler ecosystem of motorcycles, scooters and mopeds. In 2025, scooters accounted for 37 percent of total two-wheeler sales, up from 34 percent a year earlier.
Motorcycles grew by just 1.1 percent year-on-year, with their market share slipping to 61 percent from 63 percent. The shift clearly underlined changing urban mobility preferences and rising acceptance of automatic and electric scooters.
Market Concentration Remains High
Three manufacturers dominated India scooter sales 2025. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, TVS Motor Company, and Suzuki Motorcycle India together sold 61.5 lakh scooters, accounting for nearly 82 percent of total scooter volumes.
Electric scooters continued to expand steadily, with sales reaching just under 9.69 lakh units. EVs formed 13 percent of overall scooter sales, up from 10 percent in 2024, reflecting improving infrastructure, wider model availability and growing buyer confidence.
Honda Retains Leadership as Growth Moderates
Honda remained the market leader, selling 28.8 lakh scooters in 2025. Growth, however, was modest at 1 percent, translating to just over 20,000 additional units compared to the previous year.
October 2025 emerged as Honda’s strongest month, with sales nearing 3.63 lakh units, up 21 percent year-on-year. GST 2.0-led price corrections played a key role. Despite leading volumes, Honda’s slower expansion reduced its market share to 38 percent from 43 percent in 2024.
TVS Delivers the Fastest Growth Among Major Brands
TVS was one of the biggest beneficiaries of the scooter boom. Combined ICE and electric scooter sales crossed 20 lakh units for the first time, rising 27 percent year-on-year to a record 21.8 lakh units.
This added over 4.61 lakh scooters compared to 2024 and lifted TVS’s market share to 29 percent from 25 percent. The volume gap with Honda narrowed to just over 7.21 lakh units, down sharply from more than 11.6 lakh units a year earlier.
Electric scooters played a crucial role. TVS sold an estimated 3.28 lakh e-scooters, up 35 percent year-on-year, accounting for 15 percent of its scooter sales. The company also led India’s electric two-wheeler retail rankings during the year.
Suzuki Maintains Steady Momentum
Suzuki Motorcycle India sold 11.7 lakh scooters in 2025, posting 11 percent year-on-year growth and retaining a 15 percent market share. The Access 125 continued as the brand’s volume driver, while Avenis and Burgman Street benefited from increased upgrades to 125cc scooters.
Hero’s Scooter Volumes Accelerate on EV Demand
Hero MotoCorp ranked fourth, selling just over 5.18 lakh scooters, a 40 percent year-on-year increase. Market share rose to 7 percent, supported by rapidly growing Vida electric scooter volumes of nearly 1.24 lakh units, up 184 percent.
Mixed Outcomes for Yamaha, Bajaj and Ather
Yamaha Motor India reported flat scooter sales of just under 3.03 lakh units, resulting in a marginal market share dip to 4.02 percent.
Bajaj Auto, operating only in electric scooters through Chetak and Yulu, sold over 2.86 lakh units, up 14 percent year-on-year. Mid-year supply constraints limited stronger growth, though market share edged up to 3.8 percent.
Ather Energy delivered one of the strongest EV performances, selling just under 2.25 lakh electric scooters, up 58 percent. Demand for the Rizta family scooter helped lift Ather’s market share to 3 percent.
EV Growth and GST 2.0 Shape Demand Dynamics
Electric scooter sales surged 41 percent year-on-year in 2025, driven by broader product portfolios and improving customer acceptance. TVS, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero MotoCorp together sold over 9.63 lakh electric scooters during the year.
In the short term, GST 2.0 emerged as the single biggest catalyst for overall scooter demand. Lower tax rates on ICE scooters improved affordability, pushing monthly dispatches to a peak of 8.24 lakh units in October 2025. Strong momentum continued through November and December, with the final quarter contributing nearly 29 percent of annual scooter volumes.
