Quick Takeaways
  • Waabi autonomous trucking secures USD 1 billion to scale self-driving trucks and robotaxi operations globally.
  • The funding strengthens Waabi’s exclusive robotaxi deployment plan with Uber and accelerates commercial rollout.
On January 28, autonomous driving company Waabi Innovation Inc. announced that it has secured USD 1 billion (approximately CAD 1.37 billion) in fresh funding to accelerate the commercialization of its self-driving trucking technology while expanding into the robotaxi segment. The development positions Waabi autonomous trucking among the most heavily funded players in the autonomous vehicle space.

Funding structure and strategic backing

The Toronto-based company stated that the funding package includes a USD 750 million Series C round co-led by Khosla Ventures and G2 Venture Partners, along with a milestone-based future investment commitment from Uber. This capital structure is designed to support long-term scaling while aligning deployment timelines with commercial milestones.

Exclusive robotaxi deployment with Uber

As part of the agreement, Waabi will deploy its robotaxi technology exclusively on the Uber platform. The company plans to roll out 25,000 or more robotaxis powered by its Waabi Driver system, marking a significant expansion beyond self-driving trucks and into urban passenger mobility.

Investor mix highlights industry confidence

Waabi said the round attracted a strong mix of strategic and financial investors, reflecting broad confidence in autonomous trucking and robotaxi commercialization. Strategic investors include:
  • NVentures, the venture capital arm of Nvidia
  • Volvo Group Venture Capital
  • Porsche Automobil Holding SE
Financial investors participating in the round include BlackRock, Radical Ventures, BDC Capital’s Thrive Venture Fund, Export Development Canada, and Telus Global Ventures. The combination of automotive, technology, and institutional investors underscores growing momentum in self-driving trucks and robotaxis.

Technology development and testing progress

Waabi has been actively testing its autonomous vehicles on public roads with safety drivers since 2022. In October 2025, the company achieved a major technical milestone by completing its first closed-course test drive with no human on board, demonstrating advancing system maturity. Founded in 2021 by Raquel Urtasun, Waabi builds on deep expertise in autonomous driving. Urtasun previously worked at Uber until the company sold its self-driving unit in 2020, experience that now supports Waabi’s close operational alignment with the Uber robotaxi platform and its broader autonomous trucking ambitions.
