Zhao Changjiang Luxeed appointment has become one of the most closely watched leadership moves in China’s premium electric vehicle space. The former head of sales for BYD’s Denza brand has officially joined Luxeed, the new smart-vehicle marque created by Huawei and Chery, bringing deep EV marketing and channel-building expertise to the alliance.
Zhao confirmed the development on his personal Weibo account, ending months of market speculation. His profile now lists him as executive director and executive vice president at Luxeed, placing him at the core of the brand’s strategy and global positioning.
Zhao Changjiang Luxeed Appointment Strengthens HIMA Alliance
Announcing the move, Zhao said he was formally joining HIMA-Luxeed, referring to Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance that underpins the Luxeed brand. He noted that his goal is to help build a truly user-centric smart-vehicle brand with global benchmark standards.
Key objectives highlighted by Zhao include:
  • Creating a customer-focused premium EV brand
  • Leveraging Huawei’s smart mobility ecosystem
  • Supporting Luxeed’s international growth ambitions

He also publicly expressed gratitude to BYD, acknowledging the experience gained during his long tenure at the Chinese electric-vehicle leader.
Career Path from BYD to Luxeed
Born in 1986, Zhao joined BYD immediately after graduating from university in 2009. He steadily progressed from a regional sales manager to become marketing director for the Beijing–Tianjin region, where he played a key role in expanding BYD’s footprint in northern China.
When BYD relaunched its premium Denza brand in mid-2022, Zhao was appointed to lead its sales operations. During this period, he was responsible for building the sales network, strengthening dealer channels, and executing nationwide marketing campaigns to reposition Denza as a high-end electric brand.
Leadership Shift Before Departure from BYD
In July of last year, Zhao stepped down from his four-year role as general manager of Denza’s sales division. He swapped positions with Li Hui, who was then leading Fang Cheng Bao’s direct sales business within BYD’s brand portfolio. That change marked the beginning of Zhao’s transition away from Denza.
His departure from BYD last October triggered industry speculation about his next move, especially given the rapid expansion of Huawei-backed automotive projects in China.
