Quick Takeaways
  • Geely has commissioned a multi-billion-yuan global safety testing hub integrating crash, climate, and digital validation under one roof.
  • The facility positions China with world-class, future-ready vehicle safety infrastructure aligned to global regulations.
On December 12, Geely Safety Centre was officially unveiled, marking a significant advancement in global vehicle safety testing infrastructure. Designed as an open platform for multiple industries, the facility strengthens Geely’s long-term commitment to safer mobility through advanced validation of next-generation passenger and commercial vehicles.
Geely Safety Centre: A Global-Standard Safety Testing Hub
Located in Ningbo, the Geely Safety Centre represents an initial investment exceeding CNY 2 billion. Spread across nearly 45,000 square meters of land with a total built-up area of about 81,931 square meters, the centre consolidates multiple safety disciplines under one roof. It supports compliance with vehicle safety regulations across China, Europe, the United States, and Southeast Asia.
The facility enables integrated testing for:
  • Passive and active safety systems
  • Assisted driving simulation and validation
  • Cybersecurity resilience
  • Passenger cars including sedans, SUVs, MPVs, and new energy vehicles
  • Commercial vehicles such as light- and heavy-duty trucks and buses

High-Speed Indoor Crash Testing Capabilities
At the core of the Geely Safety Centre is a 293.39-meter-long indoor crash test track engineered for higher initial speeds and adjustable deceleration ranges. This setup allows precise replication of real-world crash scenarios while supporting accelerated crash testing for commercial vehicles.
The track is also future-ready, enabling research and development aligned with evolving global safety standards expected over the next decade. This positions the centre as a long-term validation platform rather than a short-term testing facility.
Advanced Climate and Wind Simulation for Vehicles
A standout feature is the altitude- and climate-adjustable wind tunnel dedicated to vehicle testing, covering more than 28,500 square meters. The tunnel enables simulation of extreme and variable environmental conditions, including:
  • Low-temperature environments
  • High-altitude driving scenarios
  • Wind speeds reaching up to 250 km/h
  • Snow, rain, and controlled solar radiation

First-in-China Arbitrary-Angle Crash Testing Zone
The Geely Safety Centre introduces China’s first arbitrary-angle crash test zone, offering impact testing from 0 to 180 degrees. This configuration supports complex, real-world collision scenarios and enables broader assessment of vehicle structural integrity and occupant protection performance.
Integrated Safety Laboratories for All-Weather Validation
Complementing the test tracks and tunnels is a dedicated laboratory cluster. This includes China’s first indoor all-weather simulation laboratory and a specialized dummy laboratory, enabling precise calibration, repeatability, and deeper analysis of crash and safety system performance across multiple vehicle categories.
By bringing together physical testing, digital simulation, and regulatory alignment, the Geely Safety Centre establishes a new reference point for global vehicle safety validation and cross-industry collaboration.
