Quick Takeaways
  • Mercedes-Benz Sprinter exports from Argentina to North America are resuming after a multi-year pause.
  • Production upgrades and efficiency gains are expected to lift annual output significantly by 2026.
On January 28, it was reported that Mercedes-Benz Sprinter exports from Argentina will restart, with locally built vans from the Virrey del Pino facility set to be shipped again to North America. The move marks a renewed phase for the Argentine plant as it strengthens its role within the brand’s global manufacturing and export strategy.

Export program confirmation and scope

The confirmation was announced by Daniel Herrero, president of Prestige Auto, who stated that the export program is already underway. While the company has not yet detailed the exact Sprinter variants or shipment schedules, the announcement signals a clear commitment to re-establishing Mercedes-Benz Sprinter exports from the region.

Previous export experience

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter previously entered the North American market from Argentina between 2015 and 2020. During that period, close to 10,000 units manufactured locally were shipped to the United States, largely in cab-chassis configurations tailored for logistics, delivery, and fleet-based commercial applications.

Plant modernization and future production plans

Under the current industrial phase, the Virrey del Pino plant is undergoing modernization to support future demand and product updates. Preparations are also in progress for the introduction of an automatic-transmission Sprinter, which is planned for launch in the first half of 2026 and is expected to enhance the model’s competitiveness.

Efficiency gains and volume growth

According to Herrero, improvements in production efficiency will be a key driver of higher output. Annual manufacturing volumes are projected to increase from around 14,000 units to approximately 20,000 units in 2026, reinforcing Argentina’s position as a cost-effective and reliable base for Mercedes-Benz Sprinter exports to North America.
