Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV Launched in Malaysia with Up to 146 km EV Range

Positioned as a locally adapted plug-in hybrid SUV, the model strengthens Proton’s electrification strategy while targeting buyers seeking extended electric driving with long-distance flexibility.
The Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV is a rebadged version of the Geely EX5, also known internationally as the Starray or Galaxy Starship 7 EM-i. It is underpinned by the GMA platform and adopts an electric-first PHEV architecture, where electric propulsion handles most driving scenarios while the petrol engine steps in only when it is more efficient.

Electric-first hybrid architecture and performance

At the core of the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV is a hybrid-dedicated 1.5-liter petrol engine designed primarily to support the electric drive. The engine engages the wheels directly only in specific conditions such as sustained highway cruising or demanding uphill sections, improving overall efficiency. The system pairs the EM-i Drive System with an 11-in-1 Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, delivering a combined output of 193 kW and 262 Nm to the front wheels. This setup allows brisk acceleration while maintaining a smooth and refined driving experience across urban and long-distance use.

Battery options, range, and charging

Proton offers multiple battery configurations to suit different usage needs across the lineup. The Prime and Premium variants are equipped with an 18.4 kWh LFP battery, enabling up to 83 km of electric-only range and a combined driving range of 943 km. These variants accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 8 seconds. The Premium Plus variant features a larger 29.8 kWh battery, extending the electric range to 146 km and the combined range to 996 km, with a 0–100 km/h time of 8.2 seconds. DC fast charging is supported up to 30 kW on Prime and Premium variants, while the Premium Plus supports up to 60 kW. AC charging across the range is rated at 6.6 kW.

Practical features and dimensions

All variants of the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV come with a 51-liter fuel tank, Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Vehicle capabilities, and a top speed of 170 km/h. These features enhance everyday usability while supporting energy sharing and emergency power needs. According to the official specification sheet, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV measures 4,740 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,755 mm.
