Uber Black India Expansion Focuses on Airport and Premium Access
Uber Black currently operates with dedicated pickup zones at select airports to enhance convenience for premium customers. These zones include terminals 1 and 2 at Bengaluru Airport and Terminal 2 at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, offering separate areas exclusively for Uber Black riders.
This structured airport access is designed to reduce waiting times and provide a smoother experience for travelers booking premium rides. The approach aligns with Uber’s broader efforts to differentiate its luxury services from standard ride-hailing options in India.
Fleet Growth Backed by Strategic Investment
To support the Uber Black India expansion, the company made a Series A investment in Carrum, a fleet management firm backed by the CarDekho Group. Carrum already supplies vehicles for Uber’s platform and plans to use the investment to scale its fleet operations further.
This partnership is expected to strengthen vehicle availability, improve fleet quality, and support long-term growth of premium mobility services on Uber’s platform.
Advanced Booking Enhances Premium Experience
Uber has also introduced a reservation feature for Uber Black in Delhi, allowing customers to book rides anywhere between two hours and 90 days in advance. This feature is targeted at users who prefer planning their travel ahead of time, particularly for airport transfers and business travel.
By enabling scheduled bookings, Uber aims to improve reliability and predictability for premium customers while optimizing fleet utilization.
Leadership Highlights Demand for Premium Mobility
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, said demand for premium mobility reflects riders who prioritize comfort and service quality. He emphasized the company’s focus on maintaining service standards while creating value for riders, drivers, and fleet partners.
Uber also reported that more than one million riders in India have subscribed to Uber One, its membership program that offers discounts across motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, and cars, indicating strong engagement across service categories.
Having entered the Indian market in 2013, Uber now operates in 125 cities nationwide. Its platform supports motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, cars, transit tickets, and bus services for both intracity and intercity travel, while enabling over 1.5 million Indians to earn income as drivers.
