On November 28, BAIC strengthened its presence in Central America with the introduction of the extended-range electric SUV models BJ41e and BJ60e in Costa Rica. The launch targets markets where charging networks are still developing, combining electric driving with a fuel-based generator to ensure long-distance usability without depending on fast chargers.

Both models adopt an extended-range electric SUV configuration that prioritizes electric propulsion while retaining a compact internal combustion generator for energy replenishment. This setup allows daily driving in electric mode while eliminating range anxiety during longer journeys, making the vehicles suitable for mixed urban and off-road use.
BAIC BJ41e Performance and Off-Road Capabilities
The BJ41e is positioned as a compact, rugged extended-range electric SUV aimed at adventure-oriented users. It uses a dual-motor layout delivering strong performance and rapid acceleration, supported by a battery sized for practical electric-only driving.
Key technical highlights include:

• Dual motors with 205 hp at the front and 335 hp at the rear

• 40.3 kWh battery enabling up to 152 km electric range

• Total CLTC driving range of up to 1,200 km with a 1.5T generator

• Independent double-wishbone front and multilink rear suspension

• 215 mm ground clearance and 750 mm water-wading capability

The BJ60e expands the extended-range electric SUV concept into a larger, family-focused format. With three-row seating and enhanced comfort features, it targets buyers who need space without compromising electric performance or off-road credentials.
Notable specifications include:

• Dual motors producing a combined 655 Nm of torque

• 152 km CLTC electric range and up to 1,200 km total range

• 1.5T generator rated at 120 hp

• Seating for seven passengers

• 215 mm ground clearance and 800 mm wading depth

The BJ60e is designed to handle long-distance travel while supporting family-oriented use cases.
Connectivity, Cabin Technology, and Driver Assistance
Both extended-range electric SUV models integrate modern connectivity and off-road-focused systems. The BJ60e further elevates the experience with large-format digital displays, high-speed connectivity, and premium in-cabin features designed to enhance comfort on long journeys.
Safety is supported by a comprehensive ADAS package that includes adaptive cruise control, highway assist, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot detection, lane-keeping assist, and door open warning. Structural reinforcement and stability systems are tuned for both on-road safety and off-road driving conditions.
