On January 21, Opaia, Angola’s leading diversified business group, formally launched Opaia Motors, establishing the country’s only domestic producer of commercial vehicles, passenger cars, and buses. The move signals a significant milestone for Opaia Motors Angola manufacturing and local value creation.
The newly commissioned assembly facility is located in the Zona Economica Especial (ZEE) in Luanda and features modern production infrastructure.
The plant has an installed annual capacity of:
  • 22,000 light vehicles
  • 1,000 buses

This scale positions the operation as a key contributor to Angola’s growing automotive ecosystem and industrial diversification strategy.
Opaia Motors currently employs more than 1,500 people and plans to expand its workforce to around 3,500 direct jobs over time. Beyond employment, Opaia Motors Angola manufacturing is expected to play an important role in facilitating technology transfer from international automotive manufacturers to the local market.
Looking ahead, the company has outlined ambitions to move into electric vehicle production, aligning its long-term roadmap with global shifts toward electrification while strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities within Angola’s automotive sector.
