Quick Takeaways
  • Spain Auto+ Program aims to stimulate electric vehicle demand while supporting Europe’s EV manufacturing ecosystem.
  • The scheme offers higher incentives for affordable EU-assembled electric vehicles with EU-made batteries.
On February 3, Spain’s Ministry of Industry and Tourism announced the Spain Auto+ Program, a new incentive scheme designed to stimulate demand for electric vehicles while supporting the automotive sector’s shift toward electric mobility. The initiative forms a key pillar of the broader Plan Auto 2030 strategy, which focuses on accelerating Spain’s transition to cleaner transport technologies.

Spain Auto+ Program framework and funding

The Spain Auto+ Program will be administered directly by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and is backed by a substantial budget allocation of EUR 400 million for 2026. To provide early market certainty, the incentives will apply retroactively from January 1, 2026, allowing eligible vehicle purchases to benefit from the scheme once it comes into force.

Eligibility criteria and incentive structure

Under the program, buyers can receive financial assistance of up to EUR 4,500 when purchasing electric vehicles manufactured within the European Union. The policy is designed to strengthen local supply chains while making electric vehicles more accessible to consumers.

Higher support for affordable EU-built electric vehicles

Pure electric vehicles priced at EUR 35,000 or less will qualify for increased support, provided both the vehicle body assembly and battery production take place within the EU. This condition reinforces the program’s dual objective of boosting electric vehicle adoption and encouraging European industrial competitiveness. By linking consumer incentives with local manufacturing requirements, the Spain Auto+ Program aligns demand-side support with long-term industrial goals. The measure is expected to play a significant role in advancing Spain’s electric mobility ambitions while contributing to the wider objectives of Plan Auto 2030.
