- UMO electric crossover production has officially started in Russia with initial deliveries planned for Moscow taxi fleets.
- The project integrates artificial intelligence features through Yandex and operates under a Special Investment Contract framework.
The UMO electric crossover has officially entered production in Russia following an announcement on February 20 by the Government of Russia. The new electric vehicle program is being executed by EVM under the UMO brand at the production facilities of MAZ Moskvich JSC. The launch marks a significant step in expanding domestic electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles manufacturing capacity, while aligning with national localization and industrial development objectives.
Production Launch of UMO Electric Crossover in Russia
The production of the UMO electric crossover is taking place at the MAZ Moskvich JSC plant under a structured industrial framework. This initiative is supported through a Special Investment Contract, which enables the manufacturer to receive targeted incentives in exchange for meeting defined localization obligations.
Initial Deployment in Moscow Taxi Fleets
The first 100 units of the UMO electric crossover will be delivered to partner taxi companies operating in Moscow within the next month. This early deployment phase focuses on fleet integration, real-world operational validation, and accelerated adoption of electric vehicles in urban mobility services.
Production Targets and Localization Commitments
Under the Special Investment Contract, EVM has committed to increasing domestic manufacturing and component sourcing levels. In return, Moscow has provided access to production facilities at the MAZ Moskvich JSC plant to support the scale-up of the UMO electric crossover program.
A total of 3,000 UMO electric crossover units are planned to be produced by 2026. The production roadmap supports Russia’s broader strategy to strengthen its electric vehicles ecosystem while reinforcing industrial capabilities through structured localization obligations.
Technology Integration with Yandex
Yandex serves as the technology partner for the UMO electric crossover project, equipping vehicles with artificial intelligence capabilities, advanced navigation systems, and integrated multimedia services. This collaboration enhances the digital functionality of the electric crossover while improving fleet efficiency and user experience.
The integration of artificial intelligence solutions aligns the UMO electric crossover with modern connected vehicle expectations. By combining domestic manufacturing under a Special Investment Contract with advanced software and AI technologies, the project reflects a coordinated effort to strengthen Russia’s position in electric and hybrid vehicles production.
