Quick Takeaways
  • Valeo software strategy in India is expanding through electrification and ADAS localisation backed by ?200 million investment.
  • Embedded software and electric powertrain components are strengthening India?s role in Valeo?s global operations.

Valeo software strategy in India is reshaping the company?s operational focus as electrification and advanced driver assistance systems increase embedded intelligence per vehicle. With a growing share of engineering talent dedicated to automotive embedded software, India is emerging as a strategic hub for technology development. More than 1,000 of the company?s 7,000 employees in the country are software engineers, reflecting a structural shift toward digital integration. As vehicle architectures become more software-defined, the company is positioning India at the center of its transformation.

Software at the Core of Automotive Growth

The automotive landscape is entering a phase of rising technology intensity driven by electrification in India automotive market and enhanced safety expectations. Sport utility vehicles account for over 60 percent of new vehicle orders, reflecting consumer demand for higher-feature content. Electrified vehicles currently represent about 4 percent of total sales but are projected to approach 25 percent by 2032, including hybrid models.

At the same time, stricter safety regulations expected around 2028 are likely to accelerate the adoption of advanced driver assistance features. Systems such as automatic emergency braking and lane assistance are becoming integral to next-generation passenger vehicles. These developments reinforce the importance of automotive embedded software as vehicles become electrified, safer, and increasingly intelligent.

Electrification and ADAS Localisation

Under its Power division, the company is expanding localisation of electric powertrain components including electric motors, inverters, DC-DC converters, and battery cooling systems. Electrified products already account for approximately 25 percent of the division?s India revenue, highlighting strong momentum in electrification in India automotive market.

Parallel to powertrain expansion, ADAS localisation India initiatives are gaining scale under the Brain division. Parking sensors are already manufactured domestically, while camera production is being industrialised with manufacturing planned to begin in 2026. Radar localisation will follow as volumes increase, supporting broader deployment of advanced safety systems.

Embedded Intelligence and Sensor Fusion

Both electrification and ADAS portfolios depend heavily on embedded control algorithms, sensor fusion, and high-performance computing. Automotive embedded software integrates data from cameras, radar, and other sensors to deliver precise vehicle responses. This integrated architecture strengthens the execution of Valeo software strategy in India by aligning local engineering expertise with global innovation requirements.

Investment to Expand Capability and Capacity

To accelerate this transformation, the company will invest more than ?200 million in India over the next three years. The investment will expand manufacturing capacity, deepen localisation of electric powertrain components, and reinforce research and development capabilities.

Operations currently span six production facilities across Pune, Chennai, and Sanand, supported by a major R&D center in Chennai. As software and electronics content per vehicle continues to rise, India?s role within the global organization is expected to grow beyond its current contribution. Valeo software strategy in India is therefore not limited to manufacturing expansion but is anchored in long-term development of engineering depth, digital expertise, and electrified mobility solutions.

India is evolving from a production base into a strategic technology pillar, combining manufacturing strength with advanced automotive embedded software capabilities to support the future of electrified and safety-focused passenger cars.
