The BYD Tang flagship SUV has been seen in public for the first time, ahead of its planned debut in the first half of the year. The new model is expected to become the top-tier offering in the Tang SUV series, targeting the premium market with an estimated price of around RMB 400,000.

BYD Tang Flagship SUV Positioned as 9 Series Model
Although the automaker has not confirmed the official name, text visible near the license plate area in the images points to the name “Datang.” At an event held on January 10, BYD announced plans to introduce two new D-segment models under its Dynasty lineup.
These include:
  • A 9 series version of the Han sedan
  • A 9 series version of the Tang SUV
Both models are scheduled to debut in the first half of the year and are positioned as the highest-tier vehicles within their respective series.
Naming Strategy and Cultural Significance
As the models remain officially unnamed, BYD has invited naming suggestions from its user community. Proposed names for the Han sedan include “Dahan” and Han 9, while options for the Tang SUV include “Datang” and Tang 9.
In China, the number 9 traditionally represents supremacy and is commonly used to denote a brand’s most premium offerings, reinforcing the flagship positioning of the new Tang model.
Premium Pricing and Product Line Context
The 9 series Tang SUV will be the production version of the Dynasty-D full-size concept SUV unveiled at the April 2025 Shanghai auto show. It is designed to sit above existing Tang models, targeting buyers in the premium SUV segment.
Currently, the Tang lineup includes:
  • Tang L DM
  • Tang DM-i
  • Tang L EV
These models are priced between RMB 179,800 and RMB 289,800, leaving clear space for the new flagship to anchor the range at the top.
Strong Sales Foundation for Tang Series
The Tang series continues to play a central role in BYD’s Dynasty lineup. In December, Tang SUV sales reached 10,129 units, bringing total sales for 2025 to 154,908 units. This solid performance underlines the commercial rationale behind introducing a higher-end BYD Tang flagship SUV to further expand the brand’s reach in China’s premium vehicle market.
