Amorphous Alloy Powder Production Expansion: Seiko Epson Invests JPY 4 Billion

Seiko Epson Corporation announced plans to expand amorphous alloy powder production by constructing a new manufacturing facility at its group company, Epson Atmix Corporation, located in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture. The project reflects growing demand for advanced materials used in automotive and other high-performance components.

Amorphous alloy powder production capacity expansion plan

The new facility will be developed under the leadership of Epson Atmix, with a total investment of approximately JPY 4 billion. Through this expansion, the company aims to raise overall production capacity by around 30%, responding to accelerating requirements from artificial intelligence-related applications and next-generation automotive technologies.

Construction timeline and operational roadmap

Construction of the amorphous alloy powder plant is scheduled to begin in September 2026, with production planned to commence in January 2028. The facility will start operations at Epson Atmix’s Kita-Inter Plant in Hachinohe City, integrating seamlessly with existing manufacturing operations.

Increase in annual production volume

The new plant will be built at the Kita Inter No. 2 site in Hachinohe. Once operational, annual amorphous alloy powder production capacity is expected to increase from the current level of approximately 6,000 tons to about 8,000 tons by the fiscal year beginning in April 2028 (FY2028), supporting sustained growth in automotive materials demand.

Strengthening supply stability and business continuity

With the addition of this facility, Epson Atmix’s amorphous alloy powder production system will operate across three sites: the headquarters plant, the existing Kita Inter plant, and the new facility. This multi-site structure is designed to enhance stable product supply while playing a significant role in the company’s business continuity plan, ensuring consistent delivery to automotive and other high-performance sectors.
