Quick Takeaways
  • BMW showcases its next-generation software-defined electric SUV with conversational AI at CES 2026.
  • The Neue Klasse iX3 signals BMW’s roadmap for scalable AI-driven digital experiences and high-voltage EV architectures.
On January 5, BMW announced that it will unveil the first production-ready model of the BMW Neue Klasse iX3 at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. The upcoming electric SUV will serve as a technology showcase, previewing innovations that are expected to shape future BMW models across multiple segments.
BMW Neue Klasse iX3 Introduces AI-Powered Voice Interaction
A key highlight of the BMW Neue Klasse iX3 is the next-generation BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, designed to deliver a more natural and intuitive in-car experience. For the first time, the system integrates Amazon Alexa+, enabling drivers and passengers to interact with the vehicle using conversational, single-sentence voice commands.
Powered by a Large Language Model, the assistant understands everyday language and responds with clear, context-aware answers. Users can control vehicle settings, access information, and manage multiple requests seamlessly, creating a more fluid interaction between occupants and the vehicle.
Expanded Digital Services and Global Rollout Plans
By linking directly to Amazon accounts, the intelligent assistant allows access to music streaming, news updates, and a wide range of connected services. This integration is aimed at enhancing convenience and personalization inside the vehicle, while keeping interactions hands-free and efficient.
  • From the second half of 2026, BMW plans to roll out this AI-powered assistant in Germany and the United States for vehicles running Operating System 9 and Operating System X.
Additional BMW models and markets are expected to follow as the technology scales across the lineup.
Software-Defined Architecture and Advanced Electric Powertrain
The BMW Neue Klasse iX3 is engineered as a software-defined vehicle, forming the foundation for BMW’s future digital architecture. It incorporates sixth-generation eDrive technology, featuring newly developed electric motors, advanced cylindrical battery cells, and an 800-volt charging system to improve efficiency and charging performance.
In its iX3 50 xDrive configuration, the electric SUV delivers an output of 469 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque. This combination highlights BMW’s focus on balancing performance, efficiency, and next-generation electric mobility within the Neue Klasse platform.
Immersive In-Car Experience Showcased at CES 2026
Visitors at CES 2026 will be able to explore new ways of interacting with the vehicle through the BMW Neue Klasse iX3. The BMW exhibition stand will also demonstrate advanced entertainment and digital features powered by BMW Operating System X, underlining the brand’s shift toward a more software-centric and connected driving experience.
