Quick Takeaways
- India has launched an Electric Micromobility Centre of Excellence in Delhi-NCR to accelerate light EV and last-mile mobility innovation.
- The HIVE–KPIT collaboration combines manufacturing enablement with advanced engineering to support global OEMs.
On December 19, 2025, India strengthened its position in next-generation urban transportation with the announcement of a new electric micromobility Centre of Excellence in the Delhi-NCR region. The initiative brings together advanced manufacturing and engineering expertise to support global original equipment manufacturers developing light electric mobility solutions.
The Centre of Excellence is being established through a memorandum of understanding between HMC E-Valley Pvt. Ltd. (HIVE), a dedicated hub for advanced e-mobility manufacturing, and KPIT Technologies Limited. It will operate as an independent facility focused on design, engineering, and platform development for micromobility and L-category electric vehicles, including electric bicycles.
Focus on Urban and Last-Mile Mobility Solutions
The electric micromobility Centre of Excellence will address the growing demand for compact, energy-efficient vehicles designed for dense urban environments. Its primary focus will be on multimodal mobility solutions that support first- and last-mile connectivity, a critical requirement as cities accelerate the shift toward cleaner and more sustainable transport systems.
Light electric vehicles such as electric scooters and e-bicycles are increasingly viewed as practical alternatives to conventional transport for short-distance travel. The Centre aims to enable faster innovation cycles and scalable solutions tailored for both domestic and international markets.
Clear Division of Responsibilities Under the MoU
Under the agreement, HIVE will be responsible for business development, customer engagement, prototyping activities, and manufacturing enablement. Its role will ensure that concepts developed at the Centre can move efficiently from design to production-ready solutions.
KPIT Technologies will lead the engineering and technology side of operations, covering solution architecture, detailed design, software development, systems integration, and overall program management. This collaboration is intended to provide end-to-end support for Light EV platforms, from early-stage concept development to industrialization.
Strengthening India’s Role in Global Micromobility Engineering
The electric micromobility Centre of Excellence is expected to play a strategic role in positioning India as a global engineering and innovation hub for light electric vehicles. By combining manufacturing readiness with deep software and systems expertise, the Centre will support OEMs seeking faster time-to-market and compliant, scalable mobility platforms.
As urban mobility requirements evolve worldwide, this initiative reflects a broader industry push toward efficient, lightweight electric solutions that balance sustainability, affordability, and performance.
