Quick Takeaways
- QuantumScape solid-state battery production moves closer to commercialization with the launch of the Eagle Line.
- The new line demonstrates scalable manufacturing readiness for OEMs and licensing partners.
On February 5, QuantumScape Corporation, a leader in next-gen solid-state lithium-metal battery technology, announced the inauguration of its newly installed Eagle Line at its facility in San Jose, California. The QuantumScape solid-state battery program reached a key milestone with the event, which was attended by automotive OEM customers, QS ecosystem partners, and government officials, and included a detailed showcase tour of the Eagle Line.
“The Eagle Line is a powerful platform to demonstrate scalable production of our solid-state technology and serve customer demand for better batteries. This is the next major step in the commercialization of our technology” said Dr. Siva Sivaram, president and CEO of QS.
Scalable Manufacturing Platform for Solid-State Batteries
The Eagle Line brings together a tightly integrated suite of equipment, advanced materials, and highly automated processes designed to serve as the production blueprint for QS technology. This line is positioned as a reference model for how solid-state battery manufacturing can be scaled efficiently while maintaining performance consistency and quality control.Cobra Process Enables Separator Scalability
A central feature of the Eagle Line is QS’s proprietary Cobra process, a unique and highly scalable method developed for producing the company’s separator technology. This process is critical to supporting higher manufacturing throughput and repeatability, which are essential for commercial-scale solid-state lithium-metal battery production.Production Objectives and Commercial Readiness
Upon ramp-up, the Eagle Line is intended to play multiple roles across development, validation, and commercialization. These objectives are aligned with accelerating customer engagement and enabling partners to replicate production at larger scales.- Produce QS battery cells to support customer sampling and testing, technology demonstrations, and product integration efforts
- Demonstrate scalable production of QS technology to enable licensing partners to manufacture at gigawatt-hour scale in their own facilities
- Serve as a platform to develop and test further technology and process improvements at meaningful scale, enabling QS’s advanced development efforts
“The Eagle Line is a powerful platform to demonstrate scalable production of our solid-state technology and serve customer demand for better batteries. This is the next major step in the commercialization of our technology” said Dr. Siva Sivaram, president and CEO of QS.
