Quick Takeaways
  • The feature shifts cruise control from a highway-only function to a city-optimized, software-driven riding aid.
  • It reinforces Ather’s strategy of using OTA software to continuously enhance scooter capability without hardware changes.
Ather Energy Infinite Cruise was introduced on the 450X electric scooter, expanding the company’s software-led feature portfolio across its performance lineup. Delivered via over-the-air updates, the capability is now available as a standard feature, reinforcing Ather Energy’s focus on continuously improving the riding experience through intelligent software enhancements.
Ather Energy Infinite Cruise Designed for Urban Indian Conditions
Unlike conventional cruise control systems built mainly for highway riding, Ather Energy Infinite Cruise has been engineered specifically for Indian city environments. Electric scooters in urban areas often operate below 30 km/h, encounter frequent stop-and-go traffic, and deal with uneven road surfaces and rapid speed changes. The system addresses these realities with adaptive control logic.
Persistent Cruise Control with Adaptive Speed Logic
Traditional cruise control disengages when the rider brakes or accelerates. In contrast, Ather Energy Infinite Cruise remains active even after rider inputs, automatically recalibrating to the new speed. This reduces repeated throttle engagement and helps lower rider fatigue during congested daily commutes.
Key Functional Capabilities of Ather Energy Infinite Cruise
The system functions across a wide speed band from 10 km/h to 90 km/h and integrates three specialized riding modes:
  • CityCruise – Automatically adjusts to changing traffic speeds for smoother urban riding.
  • Hill Control – Maintains steady speed on slopes by compensating for load variations and applying regenerative braking through the Magic Braking Algorithm.
  • Crawl Control – Enables controlled low-speed movement on rough or uneven roads, supported by Multimode Traction Control for better grip on wet or slippery surfaces.

Software Rollout and Backward Compatibility
Ather Energy confirmed that Ather Energy Infinite Cruise will be rolled out to around 44,000 existing 450X owners who purchased their scooters on or after January 1, 2025. This backward compatibility reflects long-term hardware planning decisions made during the development of the 2025 450 series.
Strengthening the Software-Defined Scooter Strategy
The addition of Infinite Cruise aligns with Ather Energy’s broader strategy of positioning its scooters as evolving products. Software updates now play a central role in extending vehicle functionality, working alongside features such as Multimode Traction Control and Magic Twist to deliver a refined riding experience on the 450 platform.
The Ather 450X is currently priced from ₹147,998 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). Founded in 2013, Ather Energy operates in the Indian electric two-wheeler market with the 450 performance series and the family-focused Rizta range, while also running one of the largest two-wheeler fast-charging networks in the region.
