The Hongqi E-QM5 reached mass production and rolled off the production line at the FAW Hongqi Changchun Plant in November 2025. Following production, the model was shipped to Hong Kong, where it was showcased ahead of its planned commercial deployment.Development and collaboration approach
The vehicle was developed specifically for Hong Kong by FAW Hongqi in collaboration with three other companies, including a subsidiary of CATL. This cooperation focused on adapting the electric taxi to local operational requirements and battery-swapping needs.Vehicle dimensions and interior layout
In terms of size, the Hongqi E-QM5 measures close to 5m in length and around 1.9m in width. The interior layout provides a distance of approximately 1.1m between the front and rear rows, supporting passenger comfort for taxi operations in dense urban conditions.Charging and infrastructure deployment
To support the Hongqi E-QM5 battery-swappable taxi rollout, FAW Hongqi has already deployed 20 charging stations in Hong Kong through local partners. The company stated that this infrastructure network will continue to expand over the next three years, aligning with the expected growth of the electric taxi fleet in the region.
