Quick Takeaways
  • Ford Kentucky Truck Plant expansion signals a major step in Ford’s US manufacturing growth and Super Duty recovery plans.
  • The investment supports higher production, workforce expansion, and long-term manufacturing capacity.
On January 23, local media reported that the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant expansion is beginning to take shape. The development marks a visible step forward in Ford’s plan to enhance truck manufacturing capacity in the United States and stabilize output after recent supply disruptions.
Investment driving the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant expansion
Ford had earlier announced a USD 60 million investment at the Kentucky Truck Plant to support the expansion. The funding is aimed at hiring and training 100 additional employees while increasing line speeds. These measures are expected to lift Super Duty production by around 5,000 units per year.
This increase is intended to help Ford recover from production losses experienced in 2025 following a fire at supplier Novelis, which impacted material availability and vehicle output across the supply chain.
Permits and land clearing for capacity growth
As part of the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant expansion, the company filed 23 wrecking permits to clear nearby properties and create space for the new addition. More recently, Ford submitted a permit to clear 67 acres of land to support the expanded Kentucky Truck Plant footprint.
Key elements of the expansion include:
  • Additional land to support higher-volume truck production
  • Infrastructure upgrades aligned with increased line speeds
  • Space to accommodate workforce growth and logistics needs

Ford’s broader manufacturing strategy
“This expansion of the Kentucky Truck Plant site is another example of Ford’s commitment to American manufacturing,” noted Ford spokesperson Jess Enoch. “It follows our announcement in August of a USD 2 billion investment in the future of manufacturing at (the nearby) Louisville Assembly plant.”
The Kentucky initiative is closely linked to Ford’s broader regional manufacturing strategy. The Louisville Assembly Plant, located around 20 miles from the Kentucky Truck Plant, is currently undergoing retooling as part of this plan.
Future-ready production in Louisville
Ford is adding 52,000 additional square feet at the Louisville Assembly Plant to enable a new production process. The upgraded facility is planned to build a yet-to-be-revealed mid-size electric pickup starting in 2027, reinforcing Ford’s long-term electrification roadmap.
Together, the Kentucky Truck Plant expansion and Louisville Assembly Plant upgrades underline Ford’s focus on strengthening domestic manufacturing, improving resilience after supply shocks, and preparing its US operations for both higher-volume trucks and future electric vehicle programs.
