Quick Takeaways
- Holographic Windshield Display development gains momentum as Hyundai Mobis partners with European specialists.
- The alliance targets large-scale commercialization of windshield-based holographic displays by 2029.
Hyundai Mobis Ltd. announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with three European companies to jointly develop technologies enabling the mass production of Holographic Windshield Display systems. The collaboration brings together expertise across optics, materials, and automotive systems to accelerate next-generation in-vehicle display commercialization.
European collaboration to scale Holographic Windshield Display technology
The alliance includes Zeiss, a German optical manufacturer; tesa, a Germany-based specialist in adhesive solutions; and Saint-Gobain Sekurit, a French automotive glass manufacturer. Together with Hyundai Mobis, the four companies aim to build a robust, scalable supply chain for advanced windshield-based display solutions. How HWD technology works in production-ready vehicles
HWD technology transforms a vehicle’s front windshield into a transparent, high-brightness display without requiring a separate physical screen. Using specialized holographic optical element films, the system can project different information to the driver and front-seat passenger simultaneously, balancing driving safety with enhanced infotainment and convenience.Defined roles and 2029 commercialization target
Within the four-party framework, Hyundai Mobis will oversee the complete system architecture while designing and manufacturing the projectors. Zeiss will handle HOE film design, tesa will support large-scale production, and Saint-Gobain Sekurit will bond the films directly to windshield glass. The partners aim to commercialize HWD systems by 2029.
