Quick Takeaways
  • KTM India 390 Adventure R brings hardcore off-road hardware at a lower price point.
  • KTM’s new Adventure R variant focuses on suspension, wheels, and ground clearance for serious trail riding.
KTM India has quietly added the KTM India 390 Adventure R to its official website, revealing an ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs 3.78 lakh. Interestingly, this makes the Adventure R more affordable than the standard 390 Adventure with spoked wheels, which is priced at Rs 3.97 lakh, despite the R being the more off-road-focused variant.
The KTM India 390 Adventure R positions itself as the most capable dirt-oriented version in the 390 Adventure family. While the overall design, engine platform, and core electronics mirror the standard model, the R introduces critical hardware upgrades aimed squarely at riders who prioritise trail performance over touring convenience.
KTM India 390 Adventure R Suspension and Wheels Explained
One of the biggest differentiators of the KTM India 390 Adventure R is its suspension setup. Borrowed from the export-spec 390 Enduro R, the bike offers 230mm of suspension travel at both the front and rear. This is a clear step up from the 200mm front and 205mm rear travel seen on the regular 390 Adventure, significantly improving its ability to handle rough terrain.
Wheel and tyre configuration further reinforces the off-road intent. The Adventure R uses a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel combination fitted with tubed Mitas Enduro Trail tyres. In contrast, the standard 390 Adventure runs a 21/17-inch setup with tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres, which are more road-biased.
KTM India 390 Adventure R Dimensions and Ground Clearance
These hardware changes result in a noticeably taller stance. The KTM India 390 Adventure R comes with an 870mm seat height and a generous 272mm of ground clearance. While this may challenge shorter riders, it provides excellent obstacle clearance and suspension articulation when riding off-road.
Apart from these changes, the rest of the motorcycle remains closely aligned with the current-generation 390 Adventure. The chassis, bodywork, and overall layout are largely unchanged, and the Adventure R is offered in a single white and orange colour scheme.
KTM India 390 Adventure R Engine and Electronics
Powering the KTM India 390 Adventure R is the same 399cc single-cylinder engine found on the standard model. It produces 46hp and 39Nm of torque and is paired with a six-speed gearbox. A bidirectional quickshifter is included, maintaining parity with the electronics package offered on the regular 390 Adventure.
In terms of features and rider aids, the Adventure R mirrors the standard bike, ensuring that riders do not miss out on electronic assistance despite the more focused mechanical setup.
KTM India 390 Adventure R Weight and Practical Considerations
With its 14-litre fuel tank filled, the UK-spec KTM India 390 Adventure R weighs 176kg, making it around 6kg lighter than the India-spec standard 390 Adventure. However, the final kerb weight for the Indian version could increase slightly due to mandatory components such as the front number plate holder and saree guard.
KTM India 390 Adventure R Price and Bookings
Priced at Rs 3.78 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, the KTM India 390 Adventure R undercuts the standard 390 Adventure by a significant margin. This lower price is likely influenced by the use of tubed tyres instead of the more expensive tubeless-compatible spoked wheels offered on the standard version.
Bookings for the KTM India 390 Adventure R are now open via the company’s website with a fully refundable token amount of Rs 1,999, making it an attractive option for riders seeking a factory-ready off-road adventure motorcycle at a competitive price point.
