On January 19, Toshiba Electronics Europe announced a collaboration with MIKROE to integrate its Toshiba SmartMCD solution for dual brushed DC motors into the SmartMCD TB9M001FTG board. This integration is designed to help automotive engineers reduce development time while prototyping applications such as sunroofs, windshield wipers, power windows, and electrically adjustable seats.
Toshiba SmartMCD Designed for Automotive Reliability
The Toshiba SmartMCD device is qualified to AEC-Q100 Grade 1 standards, ensuring reliable performance in demanding automotive environments. It incorporates multiple protection functions directly on the device, reducing the need for external components and simplifying system design.

Dual Brushed DC Motor Control with Integrated Communication
Toshiba SmartMCD supports forward and reverse operation of two brushed DC motors, making it suitable for compact automotive actuator systems. The device also integrates two high-side drivers capable of handling both 5V and 12V loads, supporting additional vehicle functions.
An onboard LIN transceiver enables seamless in-vehicle communication, while the integrated power management system operates directly from the car battery, further streamlining electronic control unit development.
SmartMCD TB9M001FTG Board for Rapid Prototyping
The SmartMCD TB9M001FTG board includes all essential motor control and testing circuitry required for evaluation and development. Configurable GPIOs allow flexible system customization, and the onboard CMSIS-DAP–compliant debugger simplifies setup, testing, and debugging.
By combining Toshiba SmartMCD with a ready-to-use development platform, the solution helps automotive engineers move efficiently from concept validation to production-ready motor control designs.
