Quick Takeaways
  • VinFast Level 2++ autonomous driving advances with AI-first robo-car architecture.
  • The collaboration targets scalable, camera-only autonomous technology for future VinFast EVs.
VinFast Level 2++ Autonomous Driving Development For Future EVs
On January 27, VinFast partnered with Autobrains, an automotive AI innovator, to develop VinFast Level 2++ autonomous driving technology along with a new autonomous vehicle architecture. The architecture is designed to allow nearly any vehicle to be converted into a self-driving robo-car while maintaining cost efficiency and scalability.
The partnership is centered on integrating advanced autonomous driving capabilities into upcoming VinFast electric vehicles. The upgraded Level 2++ system is currently being tested on the VF 8 and VF 9 models, serving as development platforms for validating real-world performance, safety behavior, and software robustness across diverse urban driving conditions.
Robo-Car Architecture Built On Camera-Only AI Systems
A major focus of the collaboration is the development of a new robo-car system that relies on AI rather than expensive LiDAR, radar, or HD mapping infrastructure. The system uses seven standard cameras paired with a compact, high-performance computing chip, enabling advanced autonomous features while significantly reducing system cost and hardware complexity.
Key elements of the robo-car architecture include:
  • Camera-only perception replacing LiDAR and radar
  • Reduced dependency on high-definition maps
  • Lower computing power requirements
  • Scalable deployment across multiple vehicle platforms

Agentic AI And Air-to-Road Localization Approach
The robo-car platform is powered by Autobrains’ Agentic AI, which adapts to real-time, humanlike driving scenarios while operating with lower computational demand. This AI-driven approach avoids reliance on costly hardware components and supports more efficient autonomous decision-making in complex traffic environments.
The system also incorporates Autobrains’ Air-to-Road localization technology, a camera-based mapping solution that fuses live road visuals with satellite imagery. By eliminating the need for HD maps, the technology improves deployment speed and supports broader geographic scalability.
Testing And Global Expansion Plans
VinFast and Autobrains are currently testing the robo-car system in controlled environments across Hanoi. Based on performance validation and regulatory readiness, the partners plan to expand trials into larger cities and additional global markets, positioning VinFast Level 2++ autonomous driving as a scalable foundation for future autonomous mobility solutions.
