Quick Takeaways
  • Nio strengthens its presence in the Nio Hungary electric vehicle market with the launch of its first official showroom and initial customer delivery.
  • The Budapest opening signals a shift toward an asset-light, distributor-led strategy for Nio in Europe.
On January 22, Nio Inc opened its first distributor-led showroom in Hungary, marking a key step in the company’s European growth strategy. The launch reinforces Nio’s focus on expanding the Nio Hungary electric vehicle market through localized sales and service operations.
The newly inaugurated Nio AutoWallis showroom in Budapest represents the brand’s official retail and service entry into the country. The company stated that the opening is designed to bring premium smart electric mobility solutions closer to Hungarian customers while strengthening its footprint in Central Europe.
AutoWallis Begins Sales and Service Operations
With the showroom now operational, AutoWallis has formally begun sales and aftersales support for Nio vehicles in Hungary. The partnership enables Nio to operate through a national distributor model, aligning with its recent push toward a more asset-light approach across European markets.
According to the company, this structure allows faster market penetration while maintaining service quality standards comparable to its China operations. The move is intended to support sustainable growth and operational efficiency in the region.
Four Nio Models Available to Hungarian Customers
At launch, customers in the Nio Hungary electric vehicle market can explore and purchase four models currently on offer. These include:
  • Nio ET5
  • Nio ET5 Touring
  • Nio EL6
  • Nio EL8

The EL6 and EL8 models correspond to the ES6 and ES8 versions sold in China, adapted for European markets. In addition, Firefly’s single offering, the Firefly EV, is also on display at the Budapest location.
First Vehicle Delivered on Opening Day
On the showroom’s opening day, Nio completed its first customer delivery in Hungary with the handover of a Nio EL8. This milestone underscores the company’s transition from market entry to active retail operations within the country.
The delivery highlights growing readiness on the ground, covering not only sales but also logistics, service infrastructure, and customer onboarding in the local market.
European Strategy and Local Manufacturing Support
Nio entered Europe in 2021, starting with Norway and initially pursuing a direct-to-consumer sales model. Over time, operational complexity prompted a strategic shift toward distributor partnerships in several countries, including Hungary.
Supporting this expansion, Nio operates a battery swap station assembly plant in Hungary to aid European deployment. The facility achieved a key milestone in September 2022, when its first battery swap station rolled off the production line, reinforcing Hungary’s role in Nio’s regional supply and infrastructure network.
With showroom operations now live and local manufacturing support in place, Nio continues to position itself for steady growth in the Nio Hungary electric vehicle market while refining its broader European expansion strategy.
