On January 29, 2026, Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia officially introduced the locally assembled GWM Wey G9 PHEV MPV, marking a significant step in the brand’s regional electrification strategy. Offered in a single variant at MYR 269,800 on-the-road excluding insurance, the model is now rolling out from EP Manufacturing’s Pegoh facility in Melaka.
The launch positions the Wey G9 as Malaysia’s second locally assembled Chinese plug-in hybrid MPV, arriving after the GAC M8. Initial production has already begun, with early units reaching distribution as GWM ramps up local operations and export readiness.

Local assembly at the Melaka plant enables GWM to meet regional trade requirements while strengthening supply chain resilience. The company has confirmed a localization rate of 40.05%, aligning the project with AFTA norms and supporting both domestic sales and overseas shipments. These proportions place the Wey G9 firmly in the large MPV segment, emphasizing cabin space, comfort, and road presence while maintaining a balanced footprint for urban and highway use.

Energy is supplied by a 44.2 kWh NMC battery pack, enabling an electric-only driving range of up to 170 km and a total combined range of approximately 1,000 km under NEDC standards. • AC charging at 6.6 kW: full charge in about 6.5 hours
