  • The strategy focuses exclusively on BEV and PHEV pickup trucks for Brazil.
On January 20, it was reported that BYD is preparing a major expansion of its pickup portfolio in Brazil as part of its broader regional growth strategy. The plan involves offering up to five pickup truck models in the Brazilian market over the coming years.
The BYD pickup trucks Brazil lineup is expected to span multiple segments, covering compact, intermediate, midsize, and large pickup categories. This expansion builds on the existing Shark model and reflects the company’s intent to address a wide range of customer needs with electrified offerings.
All upcoming BYD pickup models in Brazil will be offered exclusively as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles or battery electric vehicles. The automaker has ruled out diesel, mild-hybrid, and conventional hybrid powertrains, reinforcing its focus on full and partial electrification in the pickup segment.
Intermediate Pickup Based on Song Plus Platform
The first new model scheduled for launch will be an intermediate pickup developed on the Song Plus platform. This vehicle will feature a unibody construction, aligning it with competitors such as Fiat Toro and Ford Maverick in terms of structure and positioning.
According to the company, local manufacturing will be a critical factor for the success of this model. Production at BYD’s Camaçari plant in Bahia is considered essential, with the intermediate pickup’s market launch currently planned for 2026.
