Quick Takeaways
  • Volkswagen Group sales 2025 show diverging regional trends with BEV momentum strengthening globally.
  • Volkswagen Group highlights Europe-led electric growth despite overall volume pressure.
On January 20, Volkswagen Group announced its sales performance for the fourth quarter of 2025 and the full 2025 financial year, reflecting mixed regional outcomes and accelerating momentum in electric vehicles.
Sales volume in Q4 2025 declined by 4.9% year-on-year to 2,379,800 units. For the full year, Volkswagen Group sales 2025 slipped marginally by 0.5% to 8,983,900 units. Growth in Europe, up 4%, and South America, up 12%, helped offset weaker conditions in other major markets.
North America recorded a 10% decline, while China saw sales fall by 8%, largely reflecting anticipated market pressure and strategic adjustments. These regional challenges contrasted with improving order intake and electrification-led demand in Europe.
Volkswagen Group Sales 2025 Driven by BEV Expansion
Battery electric vehicle performance remained a bright spot. BEV deliveries in Q4 2025 rose 11.6% year-on-year to 265,600 units. Across 2025, BEV sales increased sharply by 32.0% to 983,100 units, reinforcing the Group’s electric transition.
The global BEV share of total deliveries rose from 8% to 11% year-on-year. Europe emerged as the strongest contributor, posting 66% growth and achieving around a 27% BEV market share, with five Volkswagen Group models ranking among the regional top ten.
Regional Electric Vehicle Performance and Model Impact
BEV sales in the United States grew by 46%, indicating improving acceptance and availability. In China, deliveries declined by 44% as planned, ahead of upcoming launches of locally developed electric models tailored to the market.
Growth was supported by new products, including the Škoda Elroq, Audi A6 e-tron, and the new Volkswagen Transporter. In Europe, BEV orders rose 21% to more than 200,000 vehicles, accounting for roughly 22% of the total order book.
Overall vehicle orders increased by about 13%, pointing to stabilizing demand despite near-term market headwinds. Alongside BEVs, demand for vehicles equipped with second-generation plug-in hybrid systems also strengthened.
These modern PHEV systems, offering electric-only ranges of up to 143 km, saw particularly strong uptake in Europe, where sales increased by 72%, underlining continued interest in flexible electrified powertrains across the region.
