Quick Takeaways
  • Electric power steering racks production in Russia reduces dependency on German imports for AURUS vehicles.
  • The new Murom facility also scales local manufacturing of electric portal axles for multiple Russian e-bus makers.
On February 3, the Industrial Development Fund announced that the Murom Machine-Building Plant has begun manufacturing electric power steering racks for AURUS vehicles along with electric portal axles for KAMAZ electric buses in Russia’s Vladimir region. The project strengthens domestic automotive component capabilities and supports localization goals.

Investment and localization push in automotive components

The total investment in the new manufacturing site exceeded RUB 2.2 billion. Of this amount, RUB 1.75 billion was provided by the Industrial Development Fund through a preferential loan under its Automotive Components program, enabling faster setup and industrial scaling.

Electric power steering racks for AURUS

The facility marks Russia’s first production of electric power steering racks specifically for AURUS vehicles. These components were earlier sourced from Germany. Murommashzavod plans an annual output capacity of up to 350 units, improving supply reliability and cost control.

Electric portal axles for electric buses

Alongside steering systems, the plant produces electric portal axles for Russian electric buses from KAMAZ, Volgabus, LiAZ, and Sinara-City Machines. Current production exceeds 200 axles per year, with technical readiness to scale operations up to 3,000 units annually as demand grows.
