Quick Takeaways
  • Lithium battery recycling India gains momentum with MaxVolt’s new ReEarth subsidiary.
  • The initiative focuses on high recovery, low environmental impact, and circular supply chains.
On January 30, MaxVolt Energy announced the establishment of MaxVolt ReEarth, a wholly owned subsidiary dedicated to lithium battery recycling India, marking a strategic step toward strengthening the country’s circular energy ecosystem. The new arm is designed to address the growing volume of end-of-life batteries from electric mobility and energy storage applications.

Lithium Battery Recycling India: Scope and Capabilities

MaxVolt ReEarth will deliver end-to-end recycling solutions covering second-life applications, safe disassembly, shredding of end-of-life batteries, black mass manufacturing, and recovery of high-value minerals. The subsidiary will handle multiple chemistries, including LFP, NMC, NCA, and LCO, ensuring broad industry applicability.

Recovery of Critical Battery Materials

Through its operations, the company will harvest essential resources such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese. These recovered materials are intended to be reintroduced into the supply chain, reducing dependence on virgin mining and supporting domestic battery manufacturing.

Technology, Compliance, and Industry Collaboration

The recycling process combines advanced mechanical processing with hydrometallurgy extraction methodologies, focusing on high recovery yields while minimizing environmental impact. Operations are aligned with Indian and international environmental norms, targeting high material recovery rates, minimal landfill use, and a reduced carbon footprint.

Building a Traceable Recycling Ecosystem

MaxVolt ReEarth plans to collaborate with EV manufacturers, fleet owners, battery makers, telecom operators, energy storage providers, government entities, and R&D institutions. These partnerships aim to ensure battery traceability and accelerate the development of reliable markets for recycled battery materials across India.
