WeRide Uber Robotaxi Expansion in Middle East Targets 1,200 Autonomous Vehicles

On February 6, WeRide and Uber Technologies Inc. announced a significant scale-up of their autonomous mobility collaboration, confirming plans to deploy at least 1,200 robotaxis across key Middle East markets. The WeRide Uber robotaxi expansion will bring self-driving taxi services to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Riyadh, with completion targeted as early as 2027.

The expanded partnership makes robotaxis available directly through the Uber app, enabling users in the region to access autonomous rides as part of everyday urban transport. This rollout marks a major step in commercializing autonomous driving at scale while aligning with regional smart mobility and urban innovation initiatives.

Progress Toward Long-Term Deployment Goals

With the latest announcement, WeRide and Uber are now operating robotaxis in three of the 15 cities outlined in their earlier agreement, with 12 additional cities planned by 2030. WeRide currently operates more than 200 robotaxis in the region, providing a foundation for the upcoming large-scale deployment and long-term growth of autonomous taxi services.
