Mahindra Manufacturing Plant in Nagpur: ₹150 Billion Integrated Auto & Tractor Facility Announced

On February 15, Mahindra Manufacturing Plant in Nagpur was announced as the company’s largest integrated automobile and tractor production facility, reinforcing Maharashtra’s position as a key automotive manufacturing hub. The project involves a total investment commitment of INR 150 billion over the next decade and is planned to begin production operations in 2028.

Integrated manufacturing footprint and capacity roadmap

The Mahindra Manufacturing Plant in Nagpur will be developed across 1,500 acres in the Vidarbha region, designed as a fully integrated production ecosystem for automobiles and tractors. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to achieve an annual production capacity exceeding 500,000 vehicles and 100,000 tractors.
The plant will manufacture products based on Mahindra Auto’s next-generation NU_IQ architecture, enabling flexible production across multiple vehicle categories. The platform is engineered to support a wide range of powertrains, including internal combustion engines, electric propulsion systems, and future mobility technologies aimed at both domestic and export markets.

Multi-powertrain production strategy

The Nagpur facility will be configured to support parallel manufacturing of different powertrain technologies, allowing Mahindra to scale electric vehicle production while continuing conventional vehicle output. This approach aligns with evolving market demand and regulatory requirements across global automotive markets.

Supplier ecosystem and Maharashtra expansion plan

Supporting the Mahindra Manufacturing Plant in Nagpur, a 150-acre supplier park will be established in Sambhajinagar. The supplier park will provide critical components not only to the Nagpur facility but also to Mahindra’s existing manufacturing plants located in Chakan and Nashik, strengthening supply chain efficiency and localization.
In addition to the Nagpur project, Mahindra plans to acquire land in the Igatpuri–Nashik region to expand vehicle and engine manufacturing capacities. The broader expansion initiative includes acquiring more than 2,000 acres across three locations in Maharashtra to support product growth and the company’s Advanced Technology business.

Digital manufacturing and automation focus

According to the company, the new manufacturing infrastructure will incorporate advanced automation technologies and digital manufacturing systems. These capabilities are intended to enhance productivity, improve quality consistency, and support scalable manufacturing operations across multiple vehicle platforms.
