Quick Takeaways
  • Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid delivers 470 kW and 825 Nm with electrified quattro AWD.
  • The model offers up to 84 km electric range and accelerates from 0?100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.

On February 19, Audi introduced the Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid, marking Audi Sport?s first high-performance electrified model. The performance sedan combines a twin-turbo V6 engine with an advanced electric motor and electrified quattro AWD to deliver both dynamic acceleration and improved efficiency. Designed for driving precision and everyday usability, the Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid integrates Dynamic Torque Control, a high-voltage battery system, and cutting-edge digital technologies. The model represents a significant step in Audi?s strategy to blend performance engineering with electrified mobility while maintaining hallmark RS driving characteristics.

Powertrain and Performance of the Audi RS 5 Plug-In Hybrid

The Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid is powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine generating 375 kW and 600 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 130 kW electric motor that contributes 460 Nm, resulting in a combined system output of 470 kW and 825 Nm. Power is transmitted through an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission to a newly developed quattro AWD system featuring a preloaded center differential.

With this configuration, the Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of up to 285 km/h. Electro-mechanical torque vectoring at the rear axle enhances agility and cornering stability by distributing torque precisely between the rear wheels.

High-Voltage Battery and Charging Capability

The Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid incorporates a high-voltage battery with a gross capacity of 25.9 kWh. This enables an all-electric driving range of up to 84 km, allowing emission-free operation in urban and daily driving conditions. The integration of the high-voltage battery supports seamless switching between electric and combustion power.

AC charging is supported at up to 11 kW, enabling a full charge in approximately 2.5 hours. This charging capability ensures practical usability while maintaining the performance profile expected from an RS model.

Chassis, Suspension and Driving Dynamics

The Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid is equipped with a five-link suspension setup at both the front and rear. The RS sport suspension with twin-valve dampers provides adaptive control, balancing comfort and high-performance handling.

Dynamic Torque Control and Stability Systems

To enhance traction and stability, the vehicle features Dynamic Torque Control integrated with a central driving dynamics controller. This system calculates torque distribution every five milliseconds, optimizing power delivery across the axles. Electronic stability control, ABS 2.0 software, and brake-by-wire regenerative braking further support controlled and efficient driving performance.

Interior Technology and Digital Systems

The Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid integrates advanced digital features, including a 14.5-inch MMI touch display and digital matrix LED lighting technology. These systems provide enhanced driver interaction, improved visibility, and seamless access to vehicle controls and infotainment functions.

Pricing, Production and Market Availability

The Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid Sedan starts at EUR 106,200 in Germany, while the Avant variant is priced from EUR 107,850. Production takes place in Neckarsulm, Germany. European orders open in the first quarter of 2026, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in summer 2026.

The Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid demonstrates how electrification and performance engineering can be combined to deliver high output, extended electric range, and advanced torque management in a premium performance vehicle.
