Quick Takeaways
  • Mercedes-Benz Vitoria plant will add a third shift in mid-2026 to raise daily van output to 700 units.
  • The facility will expand electric VLE production alongside V-Class, Vito, and eVito models.

On February 17, multiple industry sources confirmed that the Mercedes-Benz Vitoria plant in Spain will strengthen its manufacturing operations by introducing a third production shift beginning in mid-July 2026. This expansion is designed to support rising demand and scale electric VLE output. The Mercedes-Benz Vitoria plant currently operates two shifts, producing approximately 500 vans per day. With the third shift in place, daily production capacity is expected to increase to around 700 units, significantly enhancing annual manufacturing volumes.

Third Shift to Boost Production Capacity

The introduction of a third shift marks a major operational expansion for the Mercedes-Benz Vitoria plant. To support this ramp-up, the facility will hire approximately 600 temporary workers. This workforce expansion will allow the plant to sustain higher production intensity while maintaining quality and efficiency standards.

With three shifts running, total output for 2026 is projected to reach approximately 132,137 vans. The third shift is expected to remain operational at least through the end of the year, ensuring consistent supply to meet growing market requirements in the commercial vehicle segment.

Electric VLE Production on VAN.EA Platform

A key driver behind the capacity increase is electric VLE production, which began its pre-series phase in September 2025. The new premium all-electric VLE is built on the advanced VAN.EA platform, Mercedes-Benz?s dedicated electric architecture for vans. Full series production is scheduled to commence soon, reinforcing the plant?s strategic role in electrification.

Expanding Electric Portfolio

Alongside electric VLE production, the Mercedes-Benz Vitoria plant will continue manufacturing established models including the V-Class, Vito, and eVito. The integration of the VAN.EA platform into regular production further strengthens the plant?s position as a key hub for electric van manufacturing in Europe.

Strategic Role in Commercial Van Manufacturing

The Mercedes-Benz Vitoria plant plays a central role in the company?s commercial vehicle strategy. By scaling electric VLE production and increasing total capacity, the facility supports the broader transition toward electrified transport solutions while maintaining output of conventional and electric variants.

This production expansion highlights the plant?s importance within the global van network and underscores its readiness to meet evolving customer demand across both premium and electric commercial vehicle segments.
