Rivian R2 Production and 2026 Volume Outlook Announced in Q4 2025 Earnings Call

During its Q4 2025 earnings call on February 12, Rivian outlined detailed plans for the Rivian R2 and its contribution to upcoming delivery volumes. The company provided forward-looking guidance for 2026 while clarifying production timelines and ramp-up expectations. As Rivian prepares to launch the Rivian R2 in the coming months, leadership emphasized disciplined scaling at its Illinois facility and long-term expansion in Georgia to support future growth.

Rivian R2 Volume Targets for 2026

Rivian?s finance leadership shared that total company deliveries are projected to reach between 62,000 and 67,000 vehicles in 2026. Within that guidance, the Rivian R2 is expected to account for 20,000 to 25,000 units during its first full year on the market.

Existing models, including the R1T pickup, R1S SUV, and commercial van lineup, are forecast to maintain volumes roughly in line with 2025 levels, when the company delivered just over 42,000 vehicles. This positioning makes the Rivian R2 a central contributor to incremental growth beginning in 2026.

Gradual Ramp-Up Strategy

Series production of the Rivian R2 will begin in the second quarter at the company?s facility in Normal, Illinois. However, executives cautioned that meaningful Rivian R2 volumes are expected primarily in the second half of 2026 due to the phased production ramp.

The launch edition of the Rivian R2 will initially be produced on a single shift. A second production shift is planned later in 2026, supporting higher output as operational efficiency improves.

Manufacturing Capacity at Normal, Illinois

The expanded Normal facility plays a critical role in scaling Rivian R2 output. Rivian previously confirmed that the plant has an annual production capacity of approximately 215,000 units across its portfolio.

Within that total, capacity for up to 155,000 Rivian R2 units has been allocated. This capacity planning reflects the company?s expectation that the Rivian R2 will become its highest-volume product over time.

Portfolio Balance and Capacity Allocation

While the Rivian R2 is positioned for significant growth, the Normal plant continues to support R1T, R1S, and commercial van production. Maintaining balanced utilization ensures that Rivian production capacity remains aligned with market demand across segments.

Rivian R2 as Majority Volume Driver by 2027

Looking beyond 2026, company leadership indicated that the Rivian R2 is expected to represent the majority of overall deliveries by the end of 2027. This shift highlights the strategic importance of the Rivian R2 within the broader product roadmap.

Future Expansion at the Georgia Plant

In addition to its Illinois operations, Rivian is constructing a new manufacturing facility in Rutledge, Georgia. The Rivian Georgia plant is intended to produce Rivian R2 units as well as future vehicle programs later this decade.
