Mahindra & Mahindra passenger vehicle market performance has strengthened significantly, as the company climbed to the No. 2 position in India’s passenger vehicle rankings for CY2025, according to Vahan data available until December 25. This marks the first occasion the brand has closed a calendar year ahead of both Hyundai and Tata Motors, while Maruti Suzuki continues to lead the market with 1.75 million units.
Mahindra registered about 5.81 lakh units in 2025, compared with 4.90 lakh units in 2024. This sharp rise pushed the brand from fourth place last year to second position in CY2025 year-to-date, making it the strongest gainer among India’s 16 passenger vehicle manufacturers. Between January and November 2025, sales reached 5,74,657 units, reflecting an 18 percent year-on-year increase.
Mahindra & Mahindra Passenger Vehicle Market Driven by SUV Demand
Sustained demand for SUVs across regions ensured stable volumes throughout 2025. Growth in the Thar range, along with consistent Scorpio and Bolero sales, supported Mahindra’s climb in the rankings. New electric vehicle additions further broadened the portfolio and reinforced the company’s second-place finish.
Key contributors within the Mahindra portfolio during January–November 2025 included:
  • Scorpio: 1,61,103 units, contributing 28 percent
  • Thar: 1,07,326 units, accounting for nearly 19 percent
  • Bolero: 93,436 units, with a 16 percent share
  • 3XO: 90,608 units, close to 16 percent
  • XUV700: 80,251 units, around 14 percent
Together, these models delivered consistent monthly volumes, reflecting the market’s strong preference for utility vehicles, which now dominate passenger vehicle sales.
Rural Strength and Compact SUV Momentum
Long-established models such as the Bolero and Scorpio continued to attract strong demand outside major cities, supporting steady sales from semi-urban and rural markets. The Bolero and Bolero Neo combined contributed over 93,000 units, highlighting their continued relevance.
The 3XO compact SUV recorded over 90,000 units, growing 12 percent year-on-year and emerging as a key volume driver. Meanwhile, the XUV700 saw a modest 4 percent decline but maintained a solid share within Mahindra’s overall mix.
Thar Family Emerges as Second-Highest Seller
A major shift in the Mahindra lineup during CY2025 was the rapid rise of the Thar brand. Combined sales of the three-door Thar and the five-door Thar Roxx reached 1,07,326 units, marking a 55 percent year-on-year increase. This moved the Thar family to the second position among Mahindra models, with the Thar Roxx estimated to account for nearly two-thirds of total Thar volumes.
The Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic together remained the company’s top sellers, delivering over 1.61 lakh units and reinforcing Mahindra’s leadership in the SUV segment.
Electric SUVs Add Incremental Growth
Electric SUVs also played a growing role in Mahindra’s 2025 performance. The BE 6 and XEV 9e together contributed 38,841 units, representing around 7 percent of total volumes. The introduction of these born-electric models expanded Mahindra’s presence in the EV space and added incremental growth, supporting its strong overall showing in CY2025.
