  • The automaker plans new model launches, dealership expansion, and stronger after-sales coverage to drive growth.
BYD has set an ambitious BYD South Korea sales target of more than 10,000 vehicles for the year, representing a 64% increase compared to its 2025 passenger vehicle sales volume. The target highlights the company’s transition from market entry to aggressive scale-up in South Korea’s competitive automotive landscape.
The Korea Times reported the sales target, citing BYD Korea, the company’s local subsidiary. In its first year of operations in South Korea during 2025, BYD sold a total of 6,107 passenger vehicles, laying the foundation for its next phase of growth.
BYD Korea Shifts From Market Entry to Expansion Phase
“While 2025 was a honeymoon period during which BYD worked closely with its dealer partners to lay the groundwork, this year will mark the first year of its full-fledged leap in Korea's passenger car market,” BYD Korea said in a press release.
BYD formally entered the South Korean passenger car market on January 16, 2025, launching the Atto 3 compact SUV, which corresponds to China’s Yuan Plus model. The introduction marked BYD’s first step into one of Asia’s most mature automotive markets.
Expanding Model Portfolio to Strengthen Market Presence
Following its initial entry, BYD expanded its South Korea lineup with the Seal midsize sedan and the Sealion 7 midsize SUV. The Sealion 7 is marketed as the Sealion 07 in China, reflecting regional naming strategies while maintaining shared platform architecture.
To further strengthen its position, BYD plans to introduce three additional models to the South Korean market in 2026:
  • A rear-wheel-drive version of the Seal
  • The Dolphin compact hatchback
  • A DM-i model equipped with BYD’s plug-in hybrid technology

These additions are expected to broaden BYD’s appeal across multiple customer segments.
Retail and After-Sales Network Expansion Strategy
To support its BYD South Korea sales target, the automaker aims to significantly expand its physical presence. By the end of December, BYD plans to operate:
  • 35 retail showrooms
  • 26 after-sales service centers

The expanded network is designed to improve customer access, service quality, and brand visibility nationwide.
Competitive Landscape and Global Sales Outlook
South Korea’s automotive market remains highly competitive, with domestic giant Hyundai Motor Group ranking among the world’s largest automakers. Global manufacturers such as General Motors and Renault also maintain a strong local presence.
Beyond South Korea, BYD has outlined aggressive global ambitions. The company aims to achieve 1.3 million overseas vehicle sales in 2026, reflecting approximately 24% growth from its 2025 export volume of 1,046,083 new energy vehicles shipped from China.
