Quick Takeaways
  • Matter Motor electric two-wheeler expansion targets five segments using a shared EV platform.
  • The Ahmedabad-based startup plans scooters and multiple motorcycle categories over 3–4 years.
Ahmedabad-based electric motorcycle startup Matter Motor is preparing a major product push as part of its electric mobility growth strategy. The Matter Motor electric two-wheeler expansion will span five distinct segments over the next three to four years, with plans to enter the rapidly growing electric scooter market after completing its motorcycle lineup.
Founded in 2019 by Mohal Lalbhai, Arun Pratap Singh, Saran Babu and Prasad Telikapalli, the company currently offers a single product, the Aera electric motorcycle. Positioned as India’s first electric bike with a 4-speed manual gearbox, the Aera is priced at around Rs 1.8 lakh and serves as the foundation for Matter’s future portfolio.
Matter Motor electric two-wheeler expansion built on common platform
Matter Motor has outlined a scalable roadmap where all upcoming vehicles will be developed on a shared, AI-defined architecture. This common backbone integrates hardware, software, computing and data layers, enabling faster product development and multiple form factors from the same base.
The planned portfolio will cover:
  • Naked street motorcycles
  • Another street-focused motorcycle category
  • Adventure motorcycles
  • Youth-oriented electric bikes
  • Electric scooters

This approach is designed to allow rapid diversification while maintaining cost efficiency and consistent performance across segments.
Upcoming electric motorcycle models and timelines
Detailing the next phase of product launches, Mohal Lalbhai said,
"A 150cc equivalent model on the same platform is going to be our next immediate product. That is going to be followed by a 125cc equivalent and the performance variant. This will then be coupled with multiple different form factors on the same platform and the architecture."
He further added,
"And eventually, once we are done with our entire motorcycling portfolio, that's when we are going to be using the same concept of AI-Defined Vehicles and look at how we bring in scooters. This is what our next 3-4 year roadmap looks like."
Electric scooter entry after motorcycle portfolio
The electric scooter segment will be addressed once Matter completes its planned motorcycle range. According to the company, this phased rollout ensures platform maturity before entering high-volume scooter categories, helping it cover a large share of India’s two-wheeler demand through a unified technology base.
Competitive landscape in electric motorcycles
Matter Motor’s expansion comes amid rising competition in India’s electric motorcycle space. Startups such as Ola Electric, Revolt and Ultraviolette are already active, while Ather Energy is developing a dedicated motorcycle platform, codenamed Zenith, targeting the 125–300cc equivalent segment.
Legacy manufacturers are also preparing to enter the market. Royal Enfield, through its Flying Flea brand, and Hero MotoCorp, in partnership with US-based Zero Motorcycles, are expected to introduce electric motorcycles in the near term, intensifying competition as the segment gains momentum."
