Quick Takeaways
  • India’s two-wheeler market crossed the five-million-unit mark in a single quarter for the first time, underlining a powerful demand rebound.
  • Exports also reached an all-time high in Q3 2025, showing India’s rising influence in global motorcycle and scooter markets.
India Two-Wheeler Sales Q3 2025 touched a historic high as the domestic market recorded its strongest third-quarter performance ever. Between October and December 2025, total two-wheeler dispatches reached 5.70 million units, breaking the five-million mark for the first time in a single quarter, as per industry body data.
The latest numbers indicate a 16.9 percent year-on-year increase, confirming that demand momentum has remained intact through the festive season and into the final months of the year. While the industry is still below the all-time highs of 2018, the ongoing rebound shows steady progress.
India Two-Wheeler Sales Q3 2025 reflects steady annual recovery
Over the January–December 2025 period, cumulative two-wheeler sales stood at 20.50 million units, representing a 4.9 percent rise compared with calendar year 2024. This milestone underlines the gradual but consistent recovery of the segment after several years of volatility.
Although volumes have not yet returned to their historic peak, the data suggests that underlying demand is strengthening across multiple customer segments, supported by favorable policy measures and improving consumer confidence.
Policy measures and festive demand lift volumes
Several macro-economic and regulatory factors played a role in boosting sales during the quarter, including:
  • Introduction of GST 2.0, improving vehicle affordability
  • Income tax relief, raising household disposable income
  • Multiple repo rate cuts, lowering borrowing costs
  • A strong festive season, one of the best in recent years

Together, these measures created a supportive buying environment, encouraging both replacement purchases and first-time ownership.
Urban demand leads market expansion
Sales data from the quarter highlights a clear urban-driven growth trend. Scooters, which typically see stronger traction in cities and tier-two markets, outperformed motorcycles, reflecting the shift in consumer preferences.
This changing pattern indicates that metropolitan areas and growing urban clusters are now contributing a larger share of overall demand than in previous periods, signaling evolving mobility needs.
Export growth reaches a historic high
Alongside domestic sales, overseas shipments also hit record levels. During October–December 2025, two-wheeler exports climbed to 1.37 million units, marking a 24.3 percent increase over the same quarter of the previous year.
For the full calendar year 2025, exports totaled 4.94 million units, the highest ever recorded, with 24.2 percent growth over 2024.
Key drivers behind this export surge included:
  • Recovery in African economies
  • Stable demand from South Asian markets
  • Improving global motorcycle sales environment

A key indicator of economic and consumer confidence
The two-wheeler industry remains a critical pillar of India’s automotive sector, catering to commuters, delivery riders, and first-time vehicle buyers alike. Its performance often mirrors broader economic trends and household sentiment.
With both domestic consumption and exports gaining strength, the sector appears well positioned for further expansion, provided supportive economic conditions and buyer confidence continue in the coming quarters.
