Quick Takeaways
  • Lucid Motors midsize SUV prototype reaches first assembly milestone, signaling progress toward a 2026 market debut.
  • The new midsize platform is designed to improve manufacturability and cost efficiency while retaining Lucid performance DNA.
On January 23, Lucid Motors confirmed a major development for its next growth phase as the first Lucid Motors midsize SUV prototype was assembled at the company’s Casa Grande plant in Arizona. The update was shared publicly by Nick Twork, vice president of communications, alongside a teaser image highlighting early build activity.
Twork described observing the initial vehicles coming together in the prototype build area and emphasized continuity with Lucid’s existing product philosophy.
“Spent time in our prototype build area today watching the first full Lucid midsize vehicles come together,” Twork wrote. “Same Lucid DNA as Air and Gravity — space, efficiency, dynamics, and range — paired with dramatically improved manufacturability and cost structure”.
Lucid Motors midsize SUV platform strategy and production outlook
The Lucid Motors midsize SUV will be produced at the company’s manufacturing facility in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia, once the site becomes fully operational. At this stage, Lucid has not confirmed whether the Casa Grande plant will also handle series production of the midsize vehicle.
The new midsize platform is expected to support three future SUVs, expanding Lucid’s lineup beyond its current offerings. One of these models is planned with a clear off-road orientation, signaling a broader market approach that targets both premium urban buyers and adventure-focused customers.
Key expectations from the midsize platform include:
  • Lower production costs through simplified manufacturing processes
  • Retention of Lucid’s efficiency, range, and driving dynamics
  • Scalability across multiple SUV body styles

Lucid Motors midsize SUV reveal timeline and sales approach
During the UBS Conference in early December 2025, Chief Financial Officer Taoufiq Boussaid stated that Lucid has “a tentative official reveal date” for the midsize vehicles planned for “somewhere mid next year.” The timing may align with a dedicated investor day scheduled for the first half of 2026.
Boussaid also highlighted a notable shift in launch strategy compared with previous Lucid vehicles. Instead of collecting early reservations, the company plans to move directly to order placements once the vehicle is publicly unveiled.
“We don’t want to do reservations. We will go straight for orders,” Boussaid said, adding that the timing should be broadly aligned with the investor day.
This approach reflects Lucid’s focus on operational readiness and streamlined delivery as it prepares to scale production of the Lucid Motors midsize SUV and strengthen its position in the global electric SUV market.
