On January 22, trade unions representing workers at the Stellantis Italy Melfi facility stated that the company has yet to provide clarity on new production orders. The update followed a meeting held a day earlier at Italy’s Ministry of MIMIT, where expectations around future workloads remained unresolved.
According to FIOM-CGIL, FIM-CISL, and FISMIC, Stellantis Italy has not confirmed timelines for incoming work and continues to await the assignment of an additional vehicle model planned for the Melfi plant. The unions noted that no concrete progress has been shared since the previous discussion.
Against this backdrop, the Stellantis Melfi plant has raised the option of introducing a voluntary redundancy plan supported by incentives. This measure would remain open until May 2026, aligning with the expiry of existing social support mechanisms currently in place for employees.
Union representatives emphasized the urgency of establishing clear schedules and practical solutions to secure new production activities for the site. They reiterated that all available social safety instruments should be fully utilized to safeguard jobs during the transition period.
Regional authorities have indicated their readiness to collaborate directly with the company to support continued automotive manufacturing in the area. Following requests from the unions, the Ministry agreed to initiate discussions with Stellantis and Tiberina in Melfi, with the objective of ensuring that component production remains anchored locally and supports the broader industrial ecosystem around the plant.
