Quick Takeaways
  • New DAF XG and XG+ Electric trucks raise the benchmark for zero-emission long-haul freight.
  • High-power PACCAR drivetrains and long-range LFP batteries make electric heavy trucks commercially viable for fleets.
On January 13, DAF XG and XG+ Electric trucks were officially introduced, marking a major expansion of DAF’s zero-emission commercial vehicle portfolio. The new electric heavy-duty models follow the same advanced engineering philosophy as the XD and XF Electric series, bringing scalable battery-electric mobility to long-distance and regional haulage.
Built on a proven platform, the DAF XG and XG+ Electric range has been designed to deliver both high performance and operational efficiency for fleet operators seeking to cut emissions without sacrificing capability. These models extend DAF’s electric ecosystem, allowing logistics companies to electrify a wider variety of transport missions.
PACCAR EX-D2 Powertrain in DAF XG and XG+ Electric Trucks
The heart of the DAF XG and XG+ Electric trucks is the PACCAR EX-D2 electric drive unit. This advanced motor delivers output levels ranging from 270 kW to 350 kW, equivalent to approximately 370 to 480 horsepower, along with a massive 2,400 Nm of torque.
This high torque ensures:
  • Strong acceleration even with heavy loads
  • Smooth power delivery at highway speeds
  • Consistent performance on gradients and urban routes

The powertrain enables the trucks to match, and in some cases exceed, the performance expectations set by diesel long-haul tractors, making them suitable for demanding freight operations.
Battery Configurations for DAF XG and XG+ Electric Trucks
To support different transport needs, DAF XG and XG+ Electric trucks can be configured with three to five battery packs. This modular approach allows fleet operators to choose the optimal balance between payload and driving range.
With the maximum five-battery configuration, the vehicles can cover more than 500 kilometers on a single charge, making them viable for regional and long-distance distribution networks where downtime and charging frequency are critical factors.
Key battery flexibility benefits include:
  • Optimized vehicle weight for specific routes
  • Extended range for long-haul applications
  • Scalable energy capacity based on duty cycle

LFP Battery Technology in DAF XG and XG+ Electric Trucks
DAF equips the XG and XG+ Electric trucks with the latest lithium-iron-phosphate battery technology. These LFP batteries are free from cobalt and nickel, making them more sustainable and less dependent on critical raw materials.
They are also known for their high thermal stability and long service life, which supports reliable fleet operations. From a charging perspective, the batteries can be replenished from 10 percent to 80 percent in just over 45 minutes, helping minimize vehicle downtime during daily operations.
This combination of fast charging, safety, and durability positions the DAF XG and XG+ Electric trucks as a practical solution for real-world electric trucking.
By combining high-output electric drivetrains, long-range battery options, and advanced LFP technology, DAF is pushing battery-electric heavy trucks closer to mainstream adoption for commercial transport across Europe and beyond.
